about

In San Diego, Jordan Krimston is that all-too-rare beast among music scenes: both generous collaborator and “ideas guy.” An alumnus of Weatherbox, Band Argument, Miss New Buddha, and too many other noteworthy bands to list, Krimston has been one of the most locally in-demand multi-instrumentalists since his teenage years. With 2021’s solo debut Bushwhacking, he steps into the focal role with an assurance and inventiveness that should delight—but come as no surprise to—those familiar with the many acts he’s contributed his talents to. Recorded in collaborator Drew Pelisek’s living room throughout the halcyon year of 2020, Bushwhacking is the (ugh) quarantine album that transcends the trappings of the time period, a power pop masterpiece practically overflowing with ideas and revelry in the act of making music. Between the caffeinated halftime-chant rush of the titular opening track, the 9/8 skitter of “Rooster,” and the lighters-up balladry of “Dozing Off,” Bushwhacking seems unable to find an approach to pop music it can’t master. Taking precisely the right lessons from the math rock and emo he cut his teeth on (and a few from the R. Cuomo School of Melody), Bushwhacking is the type of cerebral-yet-celebratory indie rock brilliance that continues—and even outclasses—San Diego’s proud lineage of such.

This is a co-release with Halfway Home! For digital downloads, go to jordankrimston.bandcamp.com/album/bushwhacking where 100% of what you pay will go to Jordan.
